The London 2012 Join In and Results App won the Best Consumer App at the first ever Appster Awards held on Tuesday 2nd October, 2012 at the prestigious Kensington Roof Gardens in London.
The Appster Awards are a platform to celebrate innovation, excellence and achievement in the UK mobile applications industry. A panel of expert industry judges individually scored applications from a shortlist of over 70 nominations to determine winners in 12 different categories. Numerous criteria were taken into consideration during the entry process, including the app objectives, strategy, execution, market perception and achieved results.
The London 2012 Results app, developed by deltatre, offered information about athletes, sports and the latest news and provided real time updates to results and medals tables. The app covered 740 events, across 36 Olympic and 21 Paralympic Sports, and had 12.25 million downloads across all platforms.
During the six-week period of the Games, 60% of visits to London 2012’s online channels were from mobile devices. The Telegraph described the results app in the lead up to the Games as a “Must for at least the next ten days, and then for the Paralympics too”, a testament to the quality and value of the applications.

Sports fans now expect a rich cross-platform and multi-device experience in order to consume content wherever they are, at whatever time, on any device”.
London 2012 was described by many as the first truly digital games. Never before had an Olympic games seen the level of audience consumption across such a range of digital platforms including web, TV, mobile and tablets. The London 2012 team wanted the mobile apps to create a ‘sense of live’ to appeal to all audiences across the globe and to increase user interaction and engagement. To do this, content-rich applications were developed for multiple platforms to cater for the largest possible audience. A consistent look and feel across all London 2012 applications cemented the London 2012 brand and complimented the online offering.

The Appster Award comes after the gold prize at the at the ÑH9 Awards won by the RTVE’s Olympic app, developed by deltatre.
