Channel 4 wins Best Coverage of London 2012 at the AIB Awards

Congratulations to UK broadcaster, Channel 4 (C4), who won the Best Coverage of London 2012 for their “innovative and ground-breaking programming – great on-screen graphics and great context”- at the Association for International Broadcasting (AIB) annual global media excellence awards on the 7th November, 2012.

deltatre is delighted to have supported C4 in delivering what was considered the most engaging and innovative Paralympics ever.

In a particularly joined up workflow, deltatre provided the on-screen social media TV graphics for C4.  This meant that ideas for audience polls were initiated by either the TV or digital teams, benefiting both platforms.

It also included live athlete trending, “Who you’re talking about”, as well as almost instant onscreen viewer reaction to medals.

Initially, deltatre was appointed to build a world class website for the Paralympic Games, capable of supplying live data and results. The relationship evolved, with the digital teams on both sides developing new, dynamic ideas and pushing the boundaries of what is possible in the digital landscape, whilst remaining as accessible as possible.

The two companies pushed boundaries – developing an innovative Optical Tracking System to calculate live impact speeds during Wheelchair Rugby as well as customising deltatre’s market leading video player Diva which combines live video with data.  This meant that C4 supplied three additional video streams of Paralympic Sport as well as the main C4 simulcast.  deltatre provided the commentators and facilities to produe additional commentry to the extra at deltatre’s Wimbledon  Headquarters.

C4 also commissioned deltatre to create fast turnaround video highlights.  These were available on the website, as well as on the Paralympic mobile & tablet Apps that deltatre built for the iphone, Android, ipad & Android tablet with live streaming available on the Tablets.

Working with a forward thinking broadcaster allowed the development of vast and varied digital solutions (on top of a fully functional live results website and broadcast coverage), offering a truly innovative, engaging digital media experience for C4’s audience. The offering included:

Further congratulations must go to C4 for winning the “Best investigative documentary (TV)” award for their production of ‘Sri Lanka’s Killing Fields” which brought “a truly shocking story to light through excellent and balanced journalism”.

The AIB awards, held in London, are uniquely free from commercial interests and judged by an independent and international panel of judges consisting of respected professionals from the broadcasting and wider media industries.
