by Press Office

deltatre has been nominated for a prestigious British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) award in the Digital Creativity category. The nomination recognises deltatre’s innovative work with Channel 4’s multiplatform coverage of the London 2012 Paralympic Games.

Working with Channel 4’s Commissioning Editor, James Rutherford, deltatre’s inventive approach helped achieve new traffic records on Channel4.com and the channel’s mobile platform. ‘It was always our ambition to raise the UK’s appreciation of Paralympic sport, but we were staggered by the response from C4’s digital audience,’ said Rutherford. deltatre’s contribution to the success of Channel 4’s Paralympics coverage was integral and hugely appreciated.’

As well as providing design, development and hosting across C4’s website, smartphone Apps and tablet Apps, deltatre also acted as the channel’s digital editorial team. This unique end-to-end approach allowed ground breaking workflows across TV and online. The day’s editorial agenda was often set online using a combination of social media journalism and audience interaction. deltatre also provided all of C4’s on-screen TV social media – including athlete and audience tweets, polls, photos and trending information.

deltatre’s Creative Director, Steve Boulton, was Executive Editor for the Games with responsibilities spanning Editorial, Innovation and Digital Service provision. ‘Having influence across the full breadth of C4’s digital offering, including their technical solution, provided an agility which allowed us to achieve much more than would normally be possible. Our focus was always on telling the true story of the world’s elite Paralympic athletes,’ said Boulton. ‘We are very proud to have been trusted with delivering Channel 4’s Paralympic vision. To be recognised by BAFTA for our Digital Creativity is a tribute to a brilliant and wonderfully committed team.’

Other experience enhancing services that deltatre provided for C4 included:
• a multi-platform Optical Tracking solution for Wheelchair Rugby & Basketball, capable of detecting live impact speeds;
• three additional commentated TV channels for Sky, Virgin, Freesat and Freeview;
• fast turnaround video highlight production;
deltatre’s ground breaking Diva video player. Its unique quad-split functionality allowed viewers to watch all four of C4’s simultaneous video streams at the same time, with the ability to switch between audio feeds.
