Sochi 2014: Another Digital Record-Breaking Success

by Press Office

If London 2012 set a turning point in the way that audiences consume sports and broadcasters encompass technology, Sochi represented a further step forward in the digitalisation of modern sporting events.

deltatre was lucky enough to contribute to that process by supporting some of the leading rights-holders in delivering the Games across all digital platforms in more than 20 countries in North America, South America, Europe and Asia, including the leading provider of wireless services in Latin America America Movil, Norway’s largest commercial television broadcaster TV 2 and France’s premier broadcaster France Télévisions. This continues the great partnership we have had with some of the world’s other leading broadcasters, including NBC, NHK and BBC.

Ciaran Quinn, deltatre’s Chief Commercial Officer International said “In 2004, there was one Continental European broadcaster, Canal+, that was involved with live Olympic content delivered online, and now everything is live for some of the world’s top broadcasters. They realized that London 2012 was a watershed for digital Olympic Games as 1 billion individuals consumed it in some digital format — whether by watching video, checking real time stats on their phone, ‘liking’ an athlete, or just staying on top of the event as it unfolded with all its surprises and magic.”

deltatre’s mission in Sochi was to support the rights-holders so that they could best serve viewers and fans with rich and real-time content available on an anytime, anywhere and any device basis. The digital sport media group provided its clients with a set of solutions ranging from the design of websites, mobile and tablet apps to a revolutionary video player as well as a real-time interactive sports data service and much more.
