deltatre in South Africa

For the third consecutive FIFA World CupTM, deltatre has provided technology and operational solutions for data gathering and management, graphics and web. More than 100 people of deltatre’s staff have been in South Africa to contribute to the success of the biggest sport event of the year.

Starting from the live match’s data gathering and the live player tracking system, deltatre managed the high complexity of the result information’s delivery process to the widest possible audience. Thanks to MaTRICS, deltatre’s well known platform to manage sport result systems, data were gathered, aggregated and provided through the most sophisticated outputs, ensuring a constant and real-time connection to the action.

MaTRICS has provided the official statistics for the FIFA World CupTM and driven the following live outputs:

  • TV graphics
Matches and competition data were seamlessly integrated into the d3D, our HDTV Graphic engine (and for a number of matches into the Stereo-d3D, our stereoscopic Graphic engine) to provide real-time 3D multi language graphics outputs for live and post-production TV programs.

  • Infotainment (Stadium Video boards graphics)
Stadium video boards were fed with graphic captions, as well as a fully automated running order that included sponsor video clips and play out of a live video feed.

  • Commentator information system
The commentators were aided by extensive, relevant, statistical data, presented in an intuitive, rich information channel.

  • Official printouts
With the match aggregated data gathered by deltatre’s Result System.

The huge quantity of data made available through MaTRICS were fused with images, thanks to the most sophisticated football analysis tool dedicated to broadcasters: MAGMA PRO powered by Piero. It allowed broadcasters to find the key moments of the match adding statistics and outstanding graphics effects to the images in mere seconds.

Data gathered were also used to feed the web:

  • Web-sites updates
@Live, a real-time web platform for sport web sites, kept up to date the most important world class sites - like fifa.com - for an outstanding freshness of the information on the web. Pulse, a social platform for sport web-sites, brought content to the social ecosystem and connected users through key social networks.

  • Live streaming of the daily Media brief for the media’s extranet.

deltatre provided solutions for user generated content upload and management and for mobile communities, ensuring a strong user experience care and a great variety of device coverage.

deltatre also designed the official TV graphics for the FIFA World CupTM (including their adaptation for some of the latest generation mobile phones). The natural elements used as raw material in African folk art, combined with warm textures, epic horizons and monumental figures represented the heart of the graphic design project. We celebrated Africa bringing nature back to life.

The 2010 FIFA World CupTM represented an additional opportunity to prove deltatre’s ability to manage high profile and complex major Sport events.
