Something people don’t know about me…

I studied at a nutritional science high school and during my Sports Management studies, I worked as a nutritional consultant for upcoming youth players. Some of the players made it into the German Bundesliga or even went on to play in (and win) the World Cup.

I chose this career path because…

I like working in a very passionate environment. I love the power that sport has in bringing people together all over the world, spreading joy and excitement.

I describe my job as…

The direct link between our clients and our product and operational teams. We help our clients to improve and expand their sport and its coverage. Our work involves gathering and visualizing sports data. This could include telling stories based on data for broadcast, digital, or print.

We also create content, carry out data analysis, and develop tools to enhance the sports coverage and the experience for consumers.

My friends and family describe my job as…

Something to do with sports data or the Bundesliga...

I start the day by…

Reading what’s happening in the world with an emphasis on the sports industry.

An ordinary day at work goes like this…

I am mostly involved in the sports data ecosystem where we provide services like data gathering and delivery, next-gen stats development, performance analysis, or editorial content for storytelling. Our work helps our clients to make the most out of their sports data.

Because of Covid-19, I’m working from home most of the time. An ordinary day is a good mix of emails, project-related work and video calls with clients and colleagues from different departments and various countries.

As our commercial and product teams are based all over, the impact in this regard is rather small. Nevertheless, I’m looking forward to traveling and visiting clients in person again, attend “real” conferences or just meeting my colleagues in the office.

I know it’s been a good day when…

The to-do list has shrunk and both clients and colleagues are satisfied with the delivered results.

The best piece of advice I’ve been given is…

I like advice that challenges your views and helps you to see the full picture from different perspectives.

Outside of work I like to…

Spend time with my family and friends, watch sports (football in particular), and go to the gym and ride my bike. Seeing as I can’t meet friends at the moment, I spend a lot of time watching football!

A song that gets me in the zone is…

I don’t have a particular style of music that I listen to. I like various artists ranging from Jack Johnson, Buena Vista Social Club, and Andreas Kümmert. However, influenced by my wife and friends, I listen to a lot of South African music. If I had to pick one song, it would be Master KG’s ‘Jerusalema’. It’s a song that made its way from South Africa into European mainstream radio stations, which is well-deserved.

I am passionate about…

Football – especially “my” team VfB Stuttgart. I look forward to visiting a game with my brother and friends in the sold-out Mercedes-Benz Arena when it's possible again one day!

To me, the definition of success is…

The awareness that success can only be measured in one ‘currency’, which is happiness. By this I mean, don't let constant comparison with others result in not being able to enjoy and appreciate your own successes.

I’m excited about the future of…

Sports technology. The pace in which technology is improving and arising and the impact technology like AI can have on sports is fascinating. It will open many opportunities for clubs as well as for media companies. I look forward to accompanying and helping to shape this evolution.
