Role: Regional HR Manager - APAC
Year joined the company: 2018
Deltatre in three words: Innovative, passionate, fun
I grew up in the Blue Mountains in Sydney. After finishing high school, I enrolled in an international hotel management school and obtained an Advanced Diploma in Hotel Management. During the course, I studied HR Management, much like a major, and found my calling! So, after a two-year stint working and backpacking around Europe, I returned to Sydney to embark on my HR career. That was 20 years ago, and I haven’t looked back. I love my job!
I am responsible for managing all aspects of HR within the APAC region for Deltatre, with the invaluable assistance of our HR Administrator, Eva. This results in quite varied and interesting days, of which no two are the same! Most days include recruitment in some form (reviewing applications, interviewing candidates, and making job offers), business strategy and advice, staff engagement, mentoring/coaching, setting goals, policy and process review, team management, employee remuneration/payroll, and compliance in workplace health and safety and employment legislation).
Yes, apart from keeping active (I’m a wannabe yogi, and love most water sports, skiing and hiking), I love to bake, decorate cakes and cook everything and anything. Since taking on full-time work my passion for obstacle racing and marathon racing has taken a back seat, but I hope to complete yoga teacher training within the next year or so. I have a tendency to take on too much, with the thought that I will figure it out as I go along – I always do in the end, usually with the assistance of caffeine and adrenaline!
I was approached by a recruiter with whom I had worked within the past. She thought I’d be a great fit with the culture, and was wondering whether I would be interested in leaving my current role. As it turned out, my youngest child had started kindergarten that year, and I was ready to return to full-time, rather than part-time, employment which my current role was unable to provide due to funding. It was kismet! After meeting with Derek Ellis, DESIGN Division President, Dominic De Lorenzo, OTT Division | SVP of Products, and Monique Ellis, OTT Division | Chief Delivery Officer, I was really impressed with the caliber of staff, technical skill sets and chance to learn a new and exciting industry, having not worked in the tech sector previously.
By far, the passion, innovation, and expertise (and willingness to share this) of its most important asset – people!
Most definitely! We are a highly social bunch and find the social interactions of our people to be one of the most important parts of our culture. Of course, due to the COVID crisis, much of this is on hold and we keep in touch online. However, usually, we catch up for games of pool, activities like weekly soccer games, lawn bowls, trivia, and bake-offs, and raise funds for charitable causes every quarter.
I’ve learned that communication and transparency is the best course of action. I’ve also learned that sometimes less is more and that you don’t always have to force an issue – sometimes autonomy leads to a better outcome than expected.
Our expertise, innovative approach, and presence throughout the world can only take us and the industry to the next level.
Because we have a passion to push boundaries, innovate, and improve the way things are done. Everything we do is with the best of intentions, with an open and friendly learning culture.
I love that I get to meet and build relationships with so many different types of people in my role and enjoy the variety that comes with having a broad remit. I’ve really enjoyed learning about the technical side of the products we produce for our clientele. It blows my mind when I think about what our people know and can do! Continuing to immerse myself in all things HR across the region, learning about different laws, practices, work cultures and customs across the countries I am responsible for is the goal for the next few months.
