Position

As technical director you oversee implementing technical and engineering strategies to ensure that a business runs smoothly, and that overall targets and standards are met.


You are responsible for one or more engineering squads, directly managing the leads.

Whilst you may not directly be involved in development, you still are responsible for finding solutions to any technical problems that your teams come across in their work.


Responsibilities


Technical


· Work alongside other directors to develop overall strategies and advise on technical progression, sharing performance updates and suggesting new areas of improvement.

· Ideate and sign-off technical strategies for new product development.

· Be accountable for the development of products, focusing on ensuring technical soundness, quality, resiliency, and the efficient use of technical resources.

· Be accountable for the integration of your components into the wider company ecosystem.

· Analyse potential technical risks and establish a risk assessment with preventative measures.

· Contribute to the diagnostic and troubleshooting processes, engaging with the delivery teams, and recommending short- and long-term solutions.

· Analyse operations and provide cost-effective suggestions for improvement.

· Oversee the creation of design documentation and refine documents where necessary.


Communication


· Communicate the technical vision of the company internally to staff.

· Act as a technical representative for the company when speaking with clients and any other external parties.

· Advise new project delivery teams on technical strategy.

· Advise other company departments on technical factors where relevant.


People management


· Assist with training and recruitment of new staff members.

Monitor the progress and performance of employees to ensure that high technical standards are being met, work is completed efficiently, and hard work is rewarded

Requirements


Requirements

A Technical Director should have:

  • Delivered large scale projects/products over a number of months or in line with a product roadmap in a leadership role accountable for technology delivery, preferably in OTT or a digital agency or a product based organisation
  • The ability to navigate complex challenges and solve interaction problems
  • The ability to validate technical solutions through rapid prototyping
  • A passion for learning the latest technologies and standards
  • Knowledge of performance optimization techniques and tools
  • Experience leading projects across different regions
  • Experience in stakeholder management (both internal and external)
  • Expertise in providing guidance to improve a team’s code quality by example, training and code review, helping to upskill team members
  • Agile advocate mindset
  • Strong experience in CI/CD pipeline set-up
  • An ability to create and maintain comprehensive solution documentation
