BRITBOX
How Deltatre helped to build and run a premium entertainment UK streaming service created by the BBC & ITV
Challenge
Market research carried out by ITV ahead of the UK product’s launch in 2019 indicated that there was a definite opportunity for BritBox to carve its own niche in the crowded streaming market, specifically as a complimentary, secondary service.
ITV wanted Deltatre to work with them to create a global, entertainment-dedicated OTT home for UK TV content, with an emphasis on a user experience that is on par with the streaming giants.
The broadcaster also wanted a solution that would help maximize audience reach opportunities by focusing on platform accessibility, and a quick, straightforward, seamless time-to-market and launch.
Our Solution
BritBox UK chose us as its front-end and design partner primarily because of our AXIS product, a targeted user experience application platform that would power the front end of its streaming service.
AXIS helps nontechnical editorial teams take control of all touchpoints video service users can see and interact with — including design, navigation, promotions, and content — without touching any code. Crucially, AXIS also offered slick, high-quality visuals for BritBox users that allowed BritBox UK to deliver a premium experience without needing to carry out extensive development work.
Results
The UK-based BritBox project began in January 2019 and was launched in beta nine months later, which was the fastest deployment of any strategic consumer OTT proposition at the time from ITV.
By using our AXIS platform and suite of reference apps, BritBox was also able to deploy the full-featured product in a fraction of the time and more cost-effectively than if it had taken a conventional approach. By using the AXIS product "out-of-the-box", ITV kept integration costs extremely low.
The BritBox project can be neatly broken into two broad phases: immediately post-launch, and 2021 onwards.
