Taking us behind-the-tech today is... Ciaran Newman
Ciaran Newman is a Project Manager currently working on our project with ATP.
When did you join Deltatre, and which hub are you based in?
“I joined Deltatre in November 2021. I am based in the UK hub but have enjoyed the opportunity to work all over the world.”
What does a typical day look like in this role?
“Due to the project size of ATP and the 61 events we cover a year, my priorities vary as we progress through the calendar. I like to be present around the client as much as possible to understand their needs and expectations for the weeks/months ahead... this helps me feedback regular and reliable information to the team.
If I’m working from home, it’s important I establish my priorities for the week or individual day, based off the client feedback and in relation to the upcoming events. Some months we may have up to 12 events to deliver, which means it is also important to be reactive to any requests we receive and ensure we can support the client in an efficient manner. I like to have a flexible approach when managing a constantly moving project, and I think that’s essential to good client satisfaction and overall standard of delivery.
At certain moments throughout the year, I am required on-venue to deliver the most prestigious events in the calendar (ATP Masters 1000s and Nitto ATP Finals). This is always exciting, and requires technical expertise, which is important, so I am still across all our operating software and services. This allows me to help the operations team and to be able to respond quickly to any issues that may arise.”
Project spotlight...
"ATP is an exciting project to work on, for sure. Our aim is to always deliver the most engaging TV graphics, but an important part of this project and the sport is the data integration. Tennis has a huge influx of live in-match sports data, and we are proud to integrate with multiple data suppliers to allow the production team to have access to such data. This is something we are continuing to introduce and is a real focus of how we can improve our service.
My favorite part is working with the client to help them tell the story of the season through our graphics. On top of this, brainstorming internally to continuously present new ideas is always an exciting prospect."
Can you tell us anything about any upcoming projects?
"We have the Nitto ATP Finals in November again this year, which is a huge event where the season’s best eight players compete for the trophy. This event is where our most intricate graphics are used in broadcast, and is also an opportunity to showcase our new innovations."
What gets you most excited about Deltatre’s future?
"Deltatre has built strong partnerships across huge consumer-based sports and the opportunity to continue to develop those partnerships and showcase the latest technology and ideas is always an exciting proposition. Although we have a clear focus and direction, the speed at which technology is advancing creates an aspect of the unknown into potential market evolutions and it is a privilege to be a part of that."
