Major League Soccer has announced that Sportec Solutions, will be the league’s new Video Assistant Referee (VAR) technology provider from the start of the 2024 season.
The new multi-year deal will see Sportec Solutions implement its FIFA-approved VAR technology for 530 MLS matches, 77 Leagues Cup fixtures as well as the MLS All-Star Game presented by Target throughout the 2024 season. This follows Sportec Solutions’ successful VAR and Goal Line Technology rollout at the start of the 2022/23 season in the German Bundesliga.
The announcement comes 12 months after MLS signed a long-term deal with Sportec Solutions to collect and create next-generation enhanced data feeds from all MLS, MLS NEXT Pro and Leagues Cup matches to power MLS Season Pass on Apple TV.
Underlining its commitment to soccer in North America, Sportec Solutions has opened a state-of-the-art operations centre in Arlington, Texas, which will host a range of services for MLS including all video review, medical sideline review and match data gathering.
Creating this centralized MLS-focused facility underscores the unique relationship between MLS and Sportec Solutions, and over time, will enable a full suite of league-controlled technology services to be housed there, further enhancing MLS’ technology, officiating and fan engagement capabilities.
