Deltatre wins five-year contract to materially enhance the SFL’s match data collection, underpinning future fan engagement and big data services.

The Swiss Football League (SFL) has partnered with Deltatre, the global sports media services specialist, to overhaul its collection and management of official match data to create more detailed marketable insights. Deltatre’s data hub, built in partnership with Sportec Solutions, the joint venture between DFL Deutsche Fußball Liga and Deltatre, will be introduced to collect, process, and analyse match and player data from the Swiss Super League and Challenge League, as the SFL dramatically enhances its in-house data collection capabilities. Deltatre has licensed its data gathering software and data hub to the SFL in a five-year deal.

SFL aims to achieve a richer quality of data sets across a larger number of live events within the football season. Deltatre’s software was selected based on the company’s expertise in data collection and commercialization for sports federations, and the implementation of its data hub technology with other football leagues around the world. By having a higher quality and granularity of data at its disposal for future matches and live events, together with historical data that SFL has already, the SFL will be able to offer an expanded portfolio of products for clients and stakeholders, including fans, rights holders, and clubs.

As part of the agreement, Deltatre will provide support services to the SFL for the storage, management, and operations of a new data center in Volketswil, near Zurich, which will house a new team responsible for data acquisition.

“The value of data is constantly evolving. It’s become an important tool to build stronger relationships with our fans around the world. With Deltatre’s data hub we have more advanced ways to harness that,” said Claudius Schäfer, CEO of the Swiss Football League. “We want the Swiss Football League to stand out among other leagues for the quality and scope of its official match data for storytelling and analytics. Our agreement with Deltatre is making this a reality.”

Gilles Mas, President of Global Football at Deltatre, added: “We pride ourselves on being the go-to provider for sports media services in football that help improve the fan experience. This latest agreement with the Swiss Football League is testament to that. We’re working with the SFL to build a profitable and sustainable data arm for the business that will underpin fan-first products and market value for years to come.”

Christian Holzer, Managing Director of Germany at Deltatre, said: “The Swiss Football League continues to make sound investments in technology that will help it better drive revenue and engagement across its growing fan base. We’re proud to be a part of their journey to put data at the heart of their operations.”
