My job title is…

I’m a Senior UI Engineer working on the mtribes frontend.

The year I joined Deltatre:

I joined Deltatre back in 2018 as an Associate UI Engineer in Sydney, Australia.

I chose this career path because...

I'm from the US originally, where I had been working in fine dining restaurants for many years. I moved to Australia in 2016 and felt it was time for a career change, so, I decided to learn how to code in my free time. I studied and interviewed, and finally got my first role at Deltatre back in 2018. I've always had an interest in technology - I was a computer gamer when I was younger - so I've always been fascinated by the power of computer programming.

I would describe my job as…

A dynamic and challenging puzzle that can be solved in an infinite number of ways.

My friends and family describe my job as...

Most are intrigued as to how it all works. Many make the assumption that you need to be a maths wizard or to have gone to university to pursue a career in engineering. I gained a lot of my skills and experience through online courses and platforms, and many of these courses are free which means more opportunities to people from different backgrounds.

I am passionate about creative expression and collaboration and how we can solve problems differently by exposing ourselves to as many perspectives as possible.

I start the day by...

I start by walking my dog, Drummer, then a workout followed by a tasty cup of coffee. Next, I usually sit down for a couple of hours to work on personal projects before work starts.

The best thing about my team is…

Our ability to have a good time and get the job done properly. We like sharing jokes (mostly memes!) and occasionally we’ll gamify our work in a way that enables us to find new ways of thinking and new approaches to our projects. As the current sole owners of the mtribes codebase we call ourselves "The Tribe".

My favourite thing about being part of the Sydney hub is…

Can't go wrong being in Sydney - it's a beautiful coastal city. The office has a rooftop area with a pretty awesome view of the city skyline and harbour. We have some great social events in the office too, the next one is a cheese and wine tasting.

Outside of work, I like to…

Make music and art, mostly electronic music and creative coding. I like to maintain my physical and mental health by going to the gym, practicing tai chi and meditation. I also enjoy catching up with friends over a schnitty [traditional Aussie schnitzel snack] and a pint.

A song that tends to get me in the zone is…

Oh so many, it's too hard to list one so I'll list a few artists I’ve been listening to on repeat lately: Drexciya, Jeff Mills, Jlin, Kush Jones, and Photek.

I am passionate about…

Creative expression and collaboration and how we can solve problems differently by exposing ourselves to as many perspectives as possible.

To me, the definition of success is…

Growth. Progress is still progress at any scale.

I’m excited about the future of...

Art and technology. Human interaction design. Live-coding music environments. Generative art systems. Data-driven art.
