A day in the life of... a Solution Engineer

Something people don’t know about me…

Until my early 30s, before I joined Deltatre, even though I already had a ‘real’ job, I worked as a bartender in a fancy cocktail bar in Rome. I still enjoy making drinks at home for my friends!

I chose this career path because… 

After two years within the Delivery Team, I was looking for a more technical role. Working in Solution Engineering allows me to use my previous experience in product and delivery, but at the same time make a good use my engineering background. Having worked as Android developer and being used to working with developers, helps me a lot in understanding the requirements and the scope of the tenders we participate in.

I describe my job as…

The ‘technical wing’ of the Commercial Team. I work alongside the Business Development and Account Managers to put together proposals for new and existing clients. I spend time with Product, Delivery and our Design teams to make sure that our offers always contain the best value for our clients. We really are a cross functional team!

My friends and family describe my job as…

My 98-year-old grandma says that I’m always “talking about computers” and I think my mum is on the same page. For my friends, I do something like Netflix, but in sport. Apparently, it’s not so easy to understand what I do!

I start the day by…

Drinking a strong black coffee. And sometimes I work out before I start working.

An ordinary day at work goes like this…

Being part of the Commercial unit means that we are always very busy! We are often working on several proposals, so we need to be efficient to be able to meet our deadlines. I always catch up with my colleagues to make sure that we are on top of everything - more often than not, Excels and Keynotes. When the day is more relaxed, I usually spend time keeping myself up to date in terms of new tech or simply checking out the news from our Product Teams.

I know it’s been a good day when…

I close all my tasks in my to-do list for the day.

The best piece of advice I’ve been given is…

Talent and intelligence without commitment are useless.

Outside of work I like to…

Spend time outside and play sports when the weather is nice! I have two road bikes and a motorbike. I listen to a lot of music and I love science fiction books and movies. I keep myself busy!

A song that gets me in the zone is…

I don’t have only one! I can alternate between Dave Brubeck, Foo Fighters, and Frank Zappa easily.

I am passionate about…

Too many things. One of my favorite things to do is snowboarding, but my Sicilian roots mean I love the sea and sailing!

To me, the definition of success is…

Doing what I like and enjoying it every day.

I’m excited about the future of…

Electric cars and mobility in general. I believe that a lot of changes will happen in the foreseeable future and I’m curious to see where we’re going.
