What does a day in the life of an Android Engineer in our Video Experiences unit look like? We ask Dzmitry Chyrta to talk us through his day...

I chose this career path because...

I chose this career path because I realized that my passion for computers that began during my childhood through games, 3D-modelling, and producing electronic music, could turn into something that I can do professionally, every day of my life.

I would describe my job as…

I would describe my job as a mixture of passion, skills, and bringing value to the end customers.

My friends and family describe my job as...

My family describes my job as something unknown and complex - because they’re not working with computers as closely as me! Fortunately, my friends are mostly software engineers, and we can discuss politics, social topics, software engineering, etc.

I start the day by...

Sometimes I start my day by coming back to the things that I wasn’t able to manage the day before. Usually, a fresh mind helps to resolve things incredibly fast.

My favorite thing about being a part of the Prague hub is the perfect office location, the Czech people I get to talk to and work with, and the other colleagues from all different parts of the world that chose Prague (one of the most beautiful cities in Europe) to work in.

An ordinary day at work goes like this...

An ordinary day at work goes like this: our daily team meeting, backlog grooming meeting (where our platform team, QA team, and engineering manager review current or created issues that require us to take certain actions), and a demo during a mid-sprint review meeting where we show ongoing progress to our clients. Throughout my day I like to enjoy a few cups of cappuccino at home with something delicious! I also like to go into the office to meet with members of the team in Prague.

The best thing about my team is…

The best thing about my team is the family-like approach. We are a skilled family of professionals who gradually come up with solutions and it results in a great product. This awesome mix of people turns into a review score on Google Play and App Store that we can all be very proud of, as well as growing revenues for clients.

My favorite thing about being a part of the Prague hub is the perfect office location, the Czech people I get to talk to and work with, and the other colleagues from all different parts of the world that chose Prague (one of the most beautiful cities in Europe) to work in. This is what I came for when I moved to Prague a couple of years ago.

Outside of work, I like to…

Outside of work, I like to travel across Europe. This Spring, I’m looking forward to returning to the Netherlands with my girlfriend to see Keukenhof’s fields of tulips.

To me, the definition of success is…

To me, the definition of success is constant achievements of goals that you set for yourself. Recently, I realized that there is no “right” way to live your life. There are no right or wrong decisions. Your path is unique and based on the efforts that you put into achieving your goals. I set a goal every birthday: for instance, I would like to learn to drive this year, along with improving and continuing learning the Czech language.

I’m excited about the future of...

Firstly, I’m excited about the future of mobile development as we continue to develop and build OTT solutions on multiple platforms and keep impressing our clients.

Secondly, I think that the industry will bring us devices that will replace smartphones. Some people might talk about the future of VR and AR in this context, but I don’t currently believe in VR/AR technologies in their current state because of how expensive they are and how they can often be inconvenient (for example, the helmets you have to wear). Who knows, maybe we could watch our favorite TV series or sports events during a long-haul flight with light and stylish glasses?
